Summer Events for Kids: Find Your Monster
On July 22, starting at 2 o'clock, Gavin Woltjer, who is both a trained scientist and the director of Billings Public Library, will be taking seriously the question of whether Bigfoot and monsters like Bigfoot are real.
If you were a child who wondered if “Bigfoot” were real would you accept the word of some adult who simply asserts that Bigfoot is not real? Wouldn’t you ask, how do you know?
This is a huge question and it goes to the heart of western philosophy. How do you know what is true? If you were a scientist with an open mind and an intention to find the truth, there are things you would do.
Woltjer intends to give children the tools to investigate on their own, to make up their own minds.
This event, co-sponsored by the Billings Public Library, is included in the Library's Summer Reading Program. Kids who attend will be able to get points. It is free and open to the public. The activities are geared for elementary students, but children younger and older will find them enjoyable and are welcome.
During the week, your best bet for finding a nearby parking space is to try one of the nearby parking garages. Park 3 near the corner of Second Ave N. and North 27th street is nearest, about two blocks from our door and featuring the marvelous mural of Billings History by Terri Porta.
