Summer Events for Kids: Begins with a Plant
Laurel farmer and retired primary school teacher, Leslyn Johnson will present a program on life science for our S.T.E.A.M Summer Series for Kids, on June 17, beginning at 2:00 PM.
Les will lead a hands-on activity making gourds into birdhouses and guide us on an exploration of the cycle and interconnectedness of life. She will show us the lifecycle of a gourd plant, beginning with the care of seeds as they sprout into seedlings, how the flowers grow into fruit with seeds inside, and how the plant looks after the harvest is over. We'll open some gourds to find the seeds that we will plant in some soil! We then will decorate the dry gourds to make birdhouses.
At the end of the day, we will get to take home the birdhouses we decorated and the pots with the seeds we planted.
During the week, your best bet for finding a nearby parking space is to try one of the nearby parking garages. Park 3 near the corner of Second Ave N. and North 27th street is nearest, about two blocks from our door and featuring the marvelous mural of Billings History by Terri Porta.
