Author Event: Evan McKinney
Member-author Evan McKinney will present his novel, High Iron to Fairbanks, on Saturday, June 15, 5:30 to 7:00 PM. The book chronicles the Alaska Railroad’s construction, as experienced by a fictitious Alaskan working alongside historical figures. A supporting cast of off-beat characters add humor, and authentic photos augment this fun yet historically accurate story. “My goal was to make history interesting,” said McKinney. High Iron won 1st place in the History category of the Mill City Press 2017 Author Awards.
One reader, Bill Sheffield, who was Governor of Alaska from 1982 to 1986, says “It reads like a history book with personality—thanks to the likable, lively and humorous characters who inhabit its highly readable pages.”
Evan McKinney is an Eastern Montana native who moved to Alaska “to escape the cold.” Retired now, he lives again in Montana, in Polson.
Father’s Day is June 16th and this Alaskan story would make a great gift. Come to This House of Books to visit with Evan and pick up an autographed copy for your favorite father. We have copies in the store for this event.
