Back to topDoug Ammons
Doug Ammons easily could be described as a renaissance man. He is an author who has been one of the top expedition whitewater kayakers in the world for the last 20 years, doing first descents in many countries and making adventure documentaries for National Geographic, ESPN, and Outdoor Life. He is known for his poetic and thoughtful writing style, as well as his extremely exciting action stories. He has a family of five children and works as an editor for two large international scientific journals.
A Darkness Lit by Heroes: The Granite Mountain-Speculator Mine Disaster of 1917 took top honors for creative non-fiction at the 2018 High Plains Book Festival. There is an excellent review of the book by Dr. Tim Lehman, professor of history at Rocky Mountain College.
